Mukimbia

Today the Rwandaview is in English…Name: Mukimbia (?)

Age: 17

Family: Mukimbia is an orphan child. His father died in 1994 in Rwanda’s genocide. He doesn’t know exactly why. His mother died on 25th of March, 2009, because her lung was ill. Since that time Mukimbia is living in the house of Dominique, which is also mine.

Dominique knew Mukimbia because he was responsible for kickfair and Mukimbia was also participating in kickfair. Therefore Dominique was known to the problems of Mukimbia. Today Dominique pays the school fews, some money for meals and everything else a young guy needs. And, of course, Mukimbia lives in our house.

In addition Mukimbia has 4 siblings. Two older brothers, one older sister and one younger brother. But he doesn’t see them very often or only time a year.

Anyway, Mukimbia says that Dominique, Baptiste (i will present him later) and the volunteers are his family. Dominique is the father, the rest are his brothers.

Job: Mukimbia is a student and in Senior 2 of his school ETEM (École TEchnique Muhazi). Once he told me that he has the 7th best grades in his class. For general information I’d like to add that one year of school (three trimesters) cost about 150.000 RWF at his school.

Hobbies: His greatest hobby is – football. Mukimbia is the first goalkeeper in his Team of Kiyovu, a part of Kigali. Last saturday they had a tournament. They also train each saturday.

Dreams: This was not part of our Rwandaview, but I remember another time, when Mukimbia told me that he wishes to learn many languages. Of course he speaks perfect Kinyarwanda, speaks English very well and is also learning French. In addition he wants to learn Kiswahili, because this is the language widespread spoken by the people in East Africa – only 5 million of 55 million speakers are native speakers. And (maybe just like Dominique…) he wants to learn german – our influence… he believes that is it good to live in Germany.

Germany: As requested I talked with Mukimbia about Germany. First I asked him “What do you know about germany?”: Developed country, good government, Hitler – Hitler was bad and later on dead…

“How do you think do we travel in germany?” By tram or train, busses, bike and taxi – he did not mention cars, anyhow. When I asked him about that, he said something like “of course, i guess cars are not as expensive as here in Kigali”. I answered that we have the same amount of cars in Germany as in Kigali, but that our traffic is a bit more with rules ;) He told me that most of the cars here belong to companies and not to their drivers. And he knew that we don’t have motos (Motobike Taxis) in Germany.

“And what do you think about the families in germany?” most of the parents live, a family lives in a house, the families are smaller (about 1-3 children) and everybody goes to school. – I must say I was surprised how much he knew. You see, he has talked to many Germans in our house ;)

Okay that’s it. I feel like I’ve forgotten too much, but maybe you will get an update. See you next Rwandaview.
